Hollywood Goes Kate Gosselin

Red carpet Kate Mark Von Holden/WireImage Strutting around New York's Lincoln Center on Thursday for a premiere of Discovery Channel's "Life," the mother of eight showcased her tan, those feathery blond hair extensions (sayonara, reverse mullet!), and a trim black dress with evident pride and joy.
Now that she's dancing with the stars and intent on winning this season, the red carpet reality mom is bringing that same confidence to her fashion transformation.

Her burgeoning fashion sense is also apparent from her official "Dancing With the Stars" pic, where Kate glows in a somewhat revealing white dress topped off with a shimmering floral design. The portrait also reveals a long leg peeking out from a thigh-high slit on her dress. It makes one wonder how much skin she'll be showing on the show-this is DWTS, after all.

But Kate promises to keep her wardrobe family-friendly: "My rule of thumb is that I have to have my kids proud of me," Kate told Access Hollywood. "So, that's what you're going to see."

Kate isn't just pouring her time into style, though. The mother of eight is spending 5-6 hours a day practicing with her dance coach, Tony Dovolani. She hopes to smoke the competition -- which includes Pamela Anderson, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek, and 80-year-old Buzz Aldrin -- even though she herself admitted she "cannot dance" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Monday.

Gosselin doesn't intend for her newfound calling to interfere with motherhood, and to that end she's installing a makeshift dance floor in the basement of her Pennsylvania home. When the kids are at school, however, she'll go to a local dance studio.

Ex-husband Jon has been one of the first people to throw his support behind her, taking to his Twitter account to let the world know he is "thrilled for her" and that "she has my support and vote." But is Jon just playing nice? In the latest Us Weekly, a source close to the estranged husband says "Jon's angry because 'Dancing With the Stars' will keep her away from the kids for days, and she still won't let him have extra custody." Papa Gosselin's rep, on the other hand, assured that "she's still part of his family and he supports her 100 percent."

Of course, TLC's favorite matriarch won't be sending her young ones to just any old daycare center. Bruno Tonioli, one of the judges on DWTS, has assisted her by setting up a special daycare in LA for the kids, according to the show's host Tom Bergeron. Kate won't let a little dance competition get in the way of looking after her kids. "If I can cook dinner and dance, I'll be doing really well," she told Kimmel.
