"Please PLEASE, do not show the interview with this hunter  person," one comment read, from a woman who said she'd never written anything on the internet before.
But to the lioness of all media, that kind of reaction is catnip. What everyone (especially everyone female and married) wants to know in a situation like Rielle's is: how could she? How could she sleep with a man she knew was married and continue the affair when she knew the wife had cancer? What was she thinking? But if Winfrey's fans were afraid Hunter was going to get the compassionate, empathetic Oprah they're used to, they were mistaken. To the disappointment of some, they didn't get the host in her glorious, wrathful, James Frey mode either. Oprah simply brought a big bag of rope to her interview with the mother of John Edwards' love child, and doled out enough at a time to let Hunter macramé herself an attractive noose:

Hunter, who never lost her poise (except for when she briefly teared up while remembering her daughter and baby daddy's first meeting) has the knack of articulating completely narcissistic and delusional thoughts with a disarming blitheness. She's puzzled that people think her remotely culpable in the affair. For her, the right and obvious thing to do is always to follow "your own truth" and to be really "authentic," even when such authenticity requires you to buy your married lover a secret phone so that he can call you without anyone knowing. Despite what Oprah's fans say, for a subject like Hunter, Winfrey is the perfect interrogator. After all, who has more years of interviewing crazies? She knew she didn't need to use the hammer. You could almost see her holding back the knowing side glances to Camera 3, and just catching herself before making air-quotes gestures when asking about "Johnny," Hunter's pet name for Edwards. Nobody watching could have missed the deep skepticism in Oprah's eyes. But Hunter, as seemingly innocent of the effect of her actions on the rest of the world as ever, appeared oblivious and gave Oprah and viewers the full tour of the her scenic hometown, Delusionville.

It was compelling TV, but in the end, Hunter didn't seem any more understandable than when The National Enquirer first discovered her. She gave us no more insight into why women participate in events that are almost certain to hurt other women, and possibly some children, than any of Tiger Woods' "But I thought he loved me!" naifs. One day, perhaps, mistresses will find their champion. But it isn't Rielle Hunter, unless denial is the sport.

"He sounded good -- as good as you can when your brain's throbbing," Michelle Sychak said in a interview with the "Todd N Tyler Radio Empire." "He seems very coherent to me and like he knew what he was saying."

Michaels' recovery is going well enough that his concert tour could resume in a month, according to a statement on his website.
The rock singer and reality TV star, hospitalized since last Friday, is in critical condition in an intensive care unit, his road manager said.
His sister's call to the Omaha, Nebraska-based radio show was one of the few times a family member has spoken publicly about Michaels' illness.

"He's doing good," she said. "He's not by any means out of the woods, but he is getting better every day."
Road manager Janna Elias, who has been posting daily updates for fans on Michaels' official website, wrote Wednesday evening that his band could resume its tour in a month.

Elias said the plan is for Michaels' tour to resume May 26 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, "provided there are no further complications or setbacks."

"Even though yesterday was a minor setback, doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday," Elias said.

Tuesday's statement from Elias disclosed that Michaels suffered a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called "hyponatremia, a lack of sodium in the body which leads to seizures." Doctors still have not pinpointed the "exact cause of the rupture" in Michaels' brain, she said.
"He is responding well to tests and treatments," Elias said.
Doctors told Michaels "is very lucky as his condition could have been fatal," she said.

"With further testing and rehabilitation, they are hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months," she said.

“Project Runway” closed out its fifth season with Bravo’s biggest-ever ratings, but host Heidi Klum is not certain she’ll ever get to “auf” an aspiring designer again.

“Runway” had almost 5 million people tuning in to watch Leanne Marshall, the 27-year-old designer from Portland, Oregon, out design her competitors, Korto Momolu and Kenley Collins, to be named the winner of “Project Runway” season five. But a battle between Bravo and Lifetime has the future of the hit design show hanging by a thread purchased at Mood.

As previously reported on Access, in September a court granted NBC Universal (Access Hollywood’s parent company) an injunction against The Weinstein Company (“Runway’s” producer), who planned on taking the show to competitor Lifetime.

“I just hope that they figure out this whole drama that they have going on and that we get [the sixth season] aired,” Heidi said.

As for the end of this season, Heidi told Access that she’s very happy with the designer who said she found inspiration for her sustainable line while sitting on a riverbank in Portland.

“I just hope that we air,” Host Heidi Klum told Access Hollywood Thursday while filming an her Got Milk campaign ad. “We had such a great sixth season. Tomorrow is actually the last day, we’ve shot everything already. So, I really just hope that we get aired. Otherwise, people would not see the amazing talent that is on the show.”

“I’m so excited for Leanne. What a great designer and what a nice girl she is too. I hope she’s gonna make it far. She deserves every bit of it,” Heidi told Access. “She worked really really hard and she’s very talented. She had new ideas and I think that’s what our competition on ‘Project Runway’ is all about.”

It appears using environmentally friendly design concepts helped Leanne win over the judges.

“Any idea that is new is important,” Heidi said referencing Leanne’s sustainable line. “We’re always looking for someone on ‘Project Runway’ that is really new and brings something to the table that we haven’t seen before. She’s really unique and has really great new ideas and that’s why she ended up being the winner.“

Jimmie Johnson: Teammates, rivals,Jeff Gordon

“Did you guys hear about the fight we got into?” Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson said. “Man, we got into a hell of a fight. Caught him good with a right hook.”

OK, the four-time Cup champions didn’t really rumble even though they tangled on the track last week at Texas Motor Speedway. Gordon and Johnson insist there are no hard feelings after they got into a public tiff last week after some aggressive driving and critical comments of each other over the radio.

Gordon and Johnson both said they patched up their differences heading into today’s Aaron’s 499 and chalked it up to two drivers competing hard for a win.

“We’ve raced hard for years. I just never had a car that could keep up with him,” Gordon said. “We’ve got that this year. In a way, I hope we see more of it. We don’t want to be bumping and banging, but I do want to be changing positions with him for the lead and swapping those positions.”

Gordon won the last of his four championships in 2001 - the pre-Chase era. Johnson has made history by winning the last four Cup titles. Gordon, who owns a piece of Johnson’s team, just hasn’t been able to catch up to the No. 48 car.

That’s turned the teammates into rivals - just not bitter ones.

“There’s no doubt that there’s a rivalry,” Gordon said. “I think people talk about rivalries in this sport all the time, and they think that it has to come from another organization.”

Johnson, who earned the pole for today when both Sprint Cup qualifying and the Nationwide race were rained out yesterday at Talladega, said the pair have had disagreements before, they just haven’t been so public.

“We’ve dealt with this before and we’re going through it again,” he said. “A lot of it is just because we’re both very hungry and racing hard for each position.”

Gordon would love to prove that he beat Johnson and win another championship. He knows the pressure is on - especially in the Chase races - to keep up with the defending champ.

“He set that standard here over the last several years, and that’s one that we haven’t lived up to,” Gordon said. “It’s one that I feel like we’re capable of living up to this year. That’s why we’re going to be more aggressive, and we’re going to be racing hard, and that means that we’re going to upset some guys along the way.”

Daytona International Speedway will be repaved for the second time in history after a pothole on the track during this year’s Daytona 500 forced two delays that totaled more than two hours during the Feb. 14 race.

 Jennifer Lopez doesn't see her new film "The Back-Up Plan" as a comeback. Although she took a break from films after the 2007 release "El Cantante," Lopez worked on her music and produced TV and film projects. Plus, she gave birth to twins.

"I was just home, kind of on maternity leave," says Lopez during an interview at the Four Seasons Hotel.

In the film, Lopez plays a single woman who wants a baby

 so much she decides to get artificially inseminated. It's at that moment when she meets the man of her dreams, played by Australian hunk Alex O'Loughlin. How they deal with the pregnancy is fodder for both comic and serious moments.

Lopez liked that she could relate to everything in the script, having just experienced many of the same pregnancy moments.

"So many things in this movie is art imitating life," Lopez says. "This script was just perfect. Throughout my career I have always felt that certain things come to me at the right time. When I look at the work I have done, it's always kind of indicative of where I was in my life at the moment. This was the same thing."

The script also appealed to the 40-year-old New York native because screenwriter Kate Angelo blended traditional elements of a romantic comedy with the modern story elements of single parenting, social responsibility and being an independent woman.

There was nothing significant about her return to acting — Lopez just felt it was the right time. She opted for a romantic comedy because she's had success in the genre with "The Wedding Planner," "Maid in Manhattan" and "Monster-in-Law."

The key to a good romantic comedy, says Lopez, is playing the role as real as possible.

"When you do that, it's funnier and you really get the emotional beats," Lopez says. "I do that whether it's a drama or a comedy. But with a comedy I just have a little more fun."

The genre has also given Lopez her biggest film flop, the 2003 release "Gigli." But that was the rare bump in a successful career, which includes selling more than 35 million albums worldwide and fragrance and clothing lines.

Now she must deal with the J.Lo empire as a working mom. She got a glimpse of that challenge when she had to leave her 2-year-old twins to do interviews for the movie.

"It was tough. I'm just going to have to figure it out as I go along. I told them 'I will be home and the sun will still be up.' I tried to explain to them I wouldn't be away that long," Lopez says. "But, it's difficult."

Jolie too is finding work a little scarce as reports suggested the makers of "Wanted" are eyeing Twilight star Kristen Steward for the lead role in the sequel. Jolie’s character died in “Wanted” and director does not see the finality of it all reversible or a bad thing at all. Instead, opting to snare a new actress for the lead without looking back at Jolie’s character even for a hot minute.

Now, a friend of Sandra and her cheating husband Jesse James tells Fox 411.com that the Oscar-winning actress has a "master plan" to end their six-year marriage.

"[The infidelity scandal has] broken her heart, and they will divorce," the source told Fox411.com. "She is trying to pick her way through the mess and all the stress of knowing his three children will be hurt no matter what happens. The kids are what is holding her back from filing for the divorce immediately. It's been tough and she wants to find a balance for them - they deserve some stability, even through the divorce."

"With Jesse in rehab, she is trying to tread lightly.  Sandra is doing this on her own timeline and refuses to budge or give in to people who say she should divorce him immediately," the source explained. "Jesse and his children are her family and in some ways always will be. She is not ready to scrap it all as fast as possible. She's taken some time off and plans to stay out of the spotlight. Oscar winner Sandra Bullock’s celebration has been traded for a time of turmoil. Bullock has remained out of the spotlight since the scandal with her husband Jesse James began 1-2 weeks after her big win.

According to Fox news, a source has revealed that Bullock has a master plan to divorce James which will result in less stress for the Bullock family and James’ children. However the source does confirm that the couple will divorce.

The divorce is reportedly being filed while James seeks treatment at a sex rehab clinic in Texas. Jesse James admitted to having seven mistresses which causes a strain on the family and results in this divorce master plan. Sandra Bullock discovered her husband’s affair through the tabloids and since the story broke, went into hiding.

Fox also reports that the award winning actress accepts that James is not the man she thought he was. While it was shocking to the public when they married because of their drastic differences, they have come to accept them as a couple. Unfortunately Bullock being America’s Sweetheart does nothing to help Jesse James as this infidelity may permanently hurt his career. Sandra Bullock and Jesse James were married for six years.

Jennifer Lopez-Alex O’Loughlin THE BACK-UP PLAN Tops Weak Friday Box Office

With The Back-Up Plan, Jennifer Lopez returns to the big screen after being MIA for four years. Like most of her movies, this one falls in the romantic comedy category which proves, yet again, to be her forte. She plays Zoe, a 30 something successful pet store owner who has given up her chances of finding the elusive Mr. Right and becomes artificially inseminated.
All is wonderful in her life of future single motherhood until she bumps into Stan (Alex O'Loughlin), a divorcee who owns a farm and makes yummy cheeses. After battling over a cab, riding a train together and finding a lucky penny on the street, the two say goodbye having clearly left a flirtatious mark on each other. As much as Zoe wants to forget she ever met him and continue with her plan of solitude, Stan keeps popping up (both forced and unforced) in her life. It's no secret that Zoe will give in to Stan's rock hard abs, err... I mean, soft spoken emotions. But reality sets in when Zoe admits she is pregnant with a sperm donor's baby and Stan has to decide if he wants to stay in the relationship or walk away.

The journey and decisions that are made along the way of Zoe's nine month pregnancy are what contribute to the heart of the film in a way that makes it feel genuine with no lack of comedic flair. I found myself appreciating Lopez's character; she was honest and vulnerable. And I'm sure it was no mistake she got to show off her post-baby four pack stomach either. (Work it girl!) However, Lopez didn't hold back when the script called for her pregnant character to battle a meaty soup with just her hands, mouth and bread, or try to fall her way into a cab while wearing a too tight dress. She was charming and human.

I'll admit to having never seen Alex O'Loughlin's previous work, but he does very well at not appearing as a bumbling lovestruck idiot and instead pursues Lopez's character in an adorable (read: not creepy) way. His romantic gestures (disturbed by things like red wine spills and fire) are heart-flutter worthy and, in my eyes, instantly transform the unknown into a new competitor for the big screen rom-com leads.

Although the film centers mainly on Zoe and Stan, an array of comic relief side characters made their way into the spotlight as well. Michaela Watkins as Zoe's best friend Mona, Anthony Anderson as Stan's new found playground buddy and Melissa McCarthy as the leader of Zoe's single mother support group, all managed to make their comedic presence known without derailing the movie's plot.

Since viewing the movie last night, alongside more than a hundred other women all there for a girl's night out, I've read several reviews of the film. I was surprised to find such bad press. Some pieces debated that the film deters women from believing they can raise children on their own. My reaction: this movie wasn't meant to be a thesis topic for 2010 feminism movements. It's a romantic comedy, there's a formula: lead actress has to end up with lead actor, and we're just there for the ride. It's how the screenwriter (Kate Angelo) tells the story, and the how the actors portray it that should really garner our interest. And in my simple movie viewer eye, The Back-Up Plan was both romantic and comedic in a way that left me satisfied. As for Lopez, this newest wave into her sea of romantic comedies may very well be her best yet.

ALEX O’LOUGHLIN INSISTS HE DIDN’T BECOME AN ACTOR TO GET FAMOUS

HOLLYWOOD’S hottest new hunk, Alex O’Loughlin, insists he didn’t become an actor because he wanted to be a star.

I have liked him for years. I loved Moonlight. He made a great vampire. He was in another series Three Rivers. I notice all the trailers about this movie only mention Jenifer Lopez. There is no mention of his name. how many actors would have that happening. Let’s just enjoy the acting.

The Aussie heartthrob — who appears alongside Jennifer Lopez in new movie The Back-Up Plan — says he got into acting because he sees it as an art form.

“I didn’t become an actor to get famous,” he said. “I became an actor because I love the work. I love being on stage, I love being part of a collaborative art form and seeing what we can create in a film, but fundamentally, the most important thing to me is what comes before that, and that’s life. Your life, your family, your people…I mean, without life experience, you can’t tell stories anyway. You’re a boring actor.

“I don’t really act like I’m famous. I just do my thing. I’m not that famous, dude. Sometimes I get pointed out or some people shuffle up and ask for an autograph or a photograph, but I’m not at a point where I can’t leave the house, thank God. I think the downsides would be losing your anonymity and not being able to trust people, to tell whether people want to be with you and get to know you because of your celebrity or because of who you are.

“I just try to carry the sense of integrity and authenticity I had in the beginning of my career, because I think that’s what makes people interested in you in the first place. It’s important not to lose that.”

O’Loughlin insists he wasn’t starstruck working with Lopez, who is married to Latino singer Marc Anthony.

“I just know her as her, you know what I mean?” he said. “I know her as my costar, her husband as my friend Marc, I know Max and Emme as her kids and they’re my own little mates…I just don’t see it in that way. When I step away and look at it from that perspective, yes, she’s a brand, and the machine behind the J.Lo brand informs and creates that. She obviously wanted that, and in that case, she’s a very smart businesswoman because she’s made a lot of money, I presume, and she’s had a lot of success and is very well-known.

“She must be pretty resilient, because I don’t want that. I’m not suggesting I could ever have that, but the other thing you’ve got to realize about Jennifer is that she’s as famous as she is based on her talent. She’s a very talented woman, an incredible singer, dancer and writer who’s very good at what she does, as opposed to these people you see these days who are famous for being famous. There are celebrities in this day and age who really have offered nothing artistically but they’re on the cover of magazines and stuff. That world, I don’t really get it.”

Jon Stewart, ‘South Park’ duo tee off on network censorship and Muslim death threats (The Newsroom)

Last night, Jon Stewart defended his Comedy Central colleagues, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of “South Park,” in a 10-minute segment bashing a radical Muslim group for issuing a death threat against the rude-humor duo. You can watch the segment here (warning: some PG-13 language).
“I say this to anyone who’s threatening death in the name of religion or politics,” Stewart concluded, standing in front of a gospel choir for the second time this week, before offering his now-trademark bleeped-out sign-off, which begins with “Go” and ends with “yourselves.”

“South Park,” which has satirized just about every major religious and political figure, dead or alive, can still stir up controversy after more than a decade on the air. In last week’s 200th episode, the creators — mindful of Islam’s strict ban on any visual depictions of the the Prophet Muhammad  — concealed the animated Muhammad character in a bear costume or in a U-Haul truck. So viewers never actually saw Muhammad. 

Even so, a group called Revolution Muslim — based in New York City — issued a threat on its website alongside a photograph of Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was murdered by a radical Muslim.

Not surprisingly, Comedy Central got nervous.  Even with the figure of Muhammad tucked behind the word “CENSORED” in a new episode on Wednesday, the network took additional measures that went beyond Stone and Parker’s intentions, bleeping out the prophet’s name and some other selected dialogue. Stewart called out his own employers for altering Stone and Parker’s script without their consent — and the show’s creators also issued their own statement expressing dismay over the network’s actions.

“In the 14 years we’ve been doing “South Park,” we have never done a show that we couldn’t stand behind,” the statement said. ”We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn’t some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps.”

“In fact, Kyle’s customary final speech was about intimidation and fear,” they continued. “It didn’t mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We’ll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we’ll see what happens to it.”

 Bret Michaels is in critical condition suffering from a brain hemorrhage, his publicist said Friday. Joann Mignano confirmed a report on People magazine's website Friday that said the former Poison frontman was rushed to intensive care late Thursday after a severe headache. The report said doctors discovered bleeding at the base of his brain stem.

Mignano said tests are being conducted and that no further information was available.

The 47-year-old reality TV star had an emergency appendectomy last week after complaining of stomach pains. He said on his website that though the surgery "has taken its toll," doctors expected him to make a full recovery.

Michaels starred on the VH1 dating show "Rock of Love" and is a contestant on Donald Trump's NBC reality show, "The Celebrity Apprentice."

Before joining "The Celebrity Apprentice," Michaels starred as the lothario on VH1's lusty reality dating series "Rock of Love" from 2007 to 2009. For three seasons, Michaels searched for the women of his dreams amid a sea of implants, tattoos and thongs.

He also served as a judge on the fifth season of the USA singing competition "Nashville Star" in 2007.

Eliza Dushku and her boyfriend Rick Fox endured a long drive through the Californian desert to support her brother at a court appearance on Thursday.

The couple drove 115 miles (185 kilometres) from Los Angeles to a courtroom in Barstow, California, where Dushku's elder sibling, Nathaniel Dushku, was summoned to answer a speeding charge.

He was allegedly caught by cops racing down a freeway at more than 100 miles-per-hour (161 km/ph), but the officer who stopped the actor reportedly failed to appear at the court session, and the ticket was dismissed, according to
Rick Fox and his girlfriend Eliza Dushku didn't just go the extra mile for a family member Thursday -- they went an extra 115 miles -- driving from L.A. to a courtroom in the Mojave Desert to support Eliza's big bro.

Turns out, Eliza's big brother -- actor Nathaniel Dushku -- was busted in the desert city of Barstow, CA back in January, after cops say dude was speeding down the highway at more than 100 MPH.

Nate was due back in court yesterday -- and Rick and Eliza made the drive to lend support.

But this story has a happy ending -- we're told the officer who busted Nate was a no-show in court and the ticket was dismissed.

Kate Gosselin's ouster from Dancing with the Star will not allow her to duck ex Jon Gosselin's 'absentee mother' lawsuit against her.


Jon Gosselin filed a motion on April 7 seeking full custody of their children and child support from Kate.

In his court filing, List called Kate "an absentee mom" citing her participation in the current season of DWTS, which requires her to be away in Los Angeles leaving the children behind in Pennsylvania with nannies.

Kate Gosselin shot to fame in 2004, when Kate gave birth to sextuplets and was featured in the NBC reality TV show “Home Delivery.” In September 2005, the family was featured on the Discovery Health special entitled “Surviving Sextuplets and Twins.” The following year, Kate Gosselin, her husband Jon and their eight kids were featured in another special called “Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later.”

Due to high ratings from both Discovery Health specials, the network signed Kate Gosselin and her family to their own reality TV show entitled “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” The show, which is filmed three to four days a week, was first aired in April 2007. After two seasons with Discovery Health channel, “Jon & Kate Plus 8” moved to TLC. In April 2009, Kate Gosselin and her family appeared in a TV special entitled “Jon & Kate Plus 8 Go Green!,” which saw the Gosselin’s transform their house into an environmentally-friendly home. As of August 2009, the ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ is on its fifth season.

Musical highlights for me were his slight re-working of George Harrison’s “Something”, and a great live version of  “Eleanor Rigby”…Wings cuts “Mrs. Vanderbilt”, “Jet”, “Band on The Run”, and solo tune “Only Mama Knows” warranted repeat plays on the cd player.  An essential buy for Paul McCartney fans everywhere.

The Tropical Wings Zoo in Essex, England, just took in three of the rare creatures — a male and two females — as part of an education and breeding program. A "sheep pig" may sound like a fanciful creation — "Charlotte's Web" meets the late Nickelodeon "CatDog" cartoon, perhaps. But there evidently is such a thing on Planet Earth, and as the name suggests, it's a traditional curly-tailed pig covered in a sheep-like wool coat.

(The opposite pairing, an overgrown sheep who eats anything in its path and ferrets out truffles, is an experiment that natural selection is apparently not yet up to tackling.) And no, we're not trying to pull the wool over your eyes. (Sorry — it had to be done).

Shakira and Cape Town's Freshlyground will perform the song at the World Cup kickoff concert in Soweto on June 10, and at the tournament's opening ceremony and before the July 11 final.

"They're doing great," Jake Powel says of his son-in-law, Conan O'Brien, and his daughter, Liza, who were married at Seattle's St. James Cathedral in 2002. "Conan really has, for the first time in a decade, had the chance to think about what he wants to do with his career."

(TBS officials announced earlier this week that O'Brien will host an 11 p.m. show weeknights starting in November on the basic-cable network.)

In the three months since NBC tipped O'Brien out of "The Tonight Show" chair and rolled it back to former host Jay Leno, O'Brien has collected a $32 million severance package, which prohibits him from speaking to the press.

But the network's about-face spawned an "I'm With Coco" army on Facebook (O'Brien was given the nickname by Tom Hanks). And in his time off the air, O'Brien grew a beard and kept up a Twitter account. (A sampling: "just celebrated the end of Lent by eating 22 sleeves of Peeps. My religion rocks!" On Monday, he launched his 30-city "The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour," which stops at Seattle's McCaw Hall on Sunday and Monday.

The show will include his former co-host Andy Richter, along with members of the former "Tonight Show" band, save for leader and drummer Max Weinberg. Seattle beat-boxer Reggie Watts is also on the bill.

Powel knows that when the tour hits Seattle, Conan and Liza will spend time at his Seward Park home, where Powel, a retired insurance man and jazz musician, and his wife, Pamela, will keep a happy eye on their grandkids, Neve and Beckett.

"We're either baby-sitting or we're just kind of hanging out together at our house," Powel said of their plans. "My daughter has a lot of friends here, and Conan loves to hang out with them."

It all sounds pretty normal — even the O'Briens' $10 million house in Brentwood, Calif., which Powel described as "fairly modest."

"If you were to take that house and put it in Seattle, it would be a nice house in Mount Baker," he said. "Not a Guy Lombardo villa."

O'Brien met Liza Powel when he was hosting "Late Night." They were making a commercial makeover for the "worst advertisers" on one of NBC's affiliates in Texas, and Liza Powel's company was hired to produce it. She appeared on camera with Conan, "and you could see the connection forming right in front of your eyes," Powel recalled. "Not too many parents get to see that."

She brought him home, he brought her home and a year or so later, Liza and Conan were sitting with Madison Park florist Martha Harris, picking out flowers for their wedding. Liza had worked for Harris when she was living in Seattle.

"I had heard that she was dating him through a friend of hers who was working for me," Harris said. "I thought, 'Good job. New York was a good move.' "

(They picked green orchids and red roses for the service at St. James, in case you were wondering).

When O'Brien kicked off "The Tonight Show" in 2009, he chose Seattle's Pearl Jam as his first musical guest. Workers were still putting the backstage area together when the band arrived.

"The show was running right down to the wire," said Mike McCready, Pearl Jam's lead guitarist. "I just remember how cool Conan was to us backstage. We talked some Seattle stuff. He likes it here.

"We were, of course, honored and excited to be part of his first show," McCready said. "I loved it. I still have the sign with our name with the 'Tonight Show' logo on it. I ripped it from the door when I got there."

Just seven months later, NBC announced that Leno's name would go back on the door.

The Powels traveled to Los Angeles to watch O'Brien host "The Tonight Show" for the last time.

"It was very impressive," Jake Powel said. "He made a classic comment at the end of the show, telling people to be kind. He has always taken the high road and has always been classy about the way he handles things."

The show staff, without knowing that the Powels were family, raved about their boss.

"He's a great guy and his ambition all his life was to be Johnny Carson, that kind of person," Powel said of O'Brien. "He loves doing that, loves making people laugh and being in touch with what's going on, here and now.

Ke$ha 'Bonded' With Ryan Phillippe During 'SNL' Rehearsals

Ke$ha is currently prepping for her stint as musical guest on this week's "Saturday Night Live," when "MacGruber" star Ryan Phillippe hosts the show. And while Ke$ha is known for her wild pop-star persona, she has yet to show the world her comedy chops. So will the "Tik Tok" singer be able to flex her comic muscle on Saturday night?

"I have some ideas. I don't know ... it hasn't been confirmed or denied yet [if I'll appear in a sketch], so I can't say for sure. But I would love to do something funny," she revealed to MTV News on Thursday (April 15) during show rehearsals.

Although she's still unsure if she will actually appear in a sketch, she did pitch some ideas to "SNL" writers. "Well, they're top-secret, so I can't tell you," she teased. "But one idea was someone recently told me I smell like shrimp in a diaper, so I thought I could do a perfume skit about me with my eau de perfume being a shrimp in a diaper. It's very sensual."

Ke$ha would also love the opportunity to appear in at least one sketch with Phillippe. "We bonded. You can say that," she laughed. "I mean, that would be ideal [to star in a sketch together]. I hope that happens."

It's not always easy to get up there and be funny on "SNL," and Ke$ha hopes to score some time with Andy Samberg to ask for advice. "I just met Andy and that was awesome," she said. "But we didn't really get to chat yet."

Bret Michaels recovering in facility for diabetics

Bret Michaels is recovering at a private facility that specializes in the rehabilitation of diabetic patients after his emergency appendectomy Monday.

"While the surgery went well and doctors are optimistic that the rocker will make a full recovery, the fact that he was exhausted due to his rigorous schedule prior to the surgery and coupled with the fact that he has diabetes, the surgery has taken its toll," his rep tells PEOPLE in a statement.

"Even for non-diabetic patients the recovery from surgery can be long and painful," the statement continues. "Doctors were amazed at how good of health Bret was in being a 47-year-old diabetic. However the main focus and concern right now is that he is able to rest, recover and maintain good blood sugar levels while doing so."

Michaels was discharged from the Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-Westover Hills in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday, the hospital confirmed to local newspapers.

The rocker, who currently appears on Celebrity Apprentice, is also in the middle of an extensive North American tour. "It is unclear at this time exactly how many of Michaels tour dates will have to be moved," his rep says. "However it has been noted that the singers dates through April 24th are currently being rescheduled and new dates should be posted to his Web site soon."

Health warning over falling ash from Iceland volcano

Scottish health authorities warned people Thursday to beware of possible health problems from ash falling to the ground over northern Britain following a volcano eruption in Iceland.

The volcano fallout is unlikely to pose a major health risk, but people should watch out for symptoms including itchy eyes or a sore throat, said Health Protection Scotland.

"Updated information on weather patterns in the UK now indicates that volcanic ash associated with the current eruption in Iceland will reach ground level over the UK, starting in Scotland this evening before moving south over the course of the night," said a Health Protection Scotland statement.

"It is important to stress that the concentration of particles which does reach ground level is likely to be low and should not cause serious harm."

But it said: "if people are outside this evening and notice symptoms such as itchy or irritated eyes, runny nose, sore throat or dry cough, or if they notice a dusty haze in the air or can smell sulphur, rotten eggs ... they may wish to limit their activities outdoors or return indoors."

The British Met Office however downplayed the risk, saying any ash that did fall to the ground would be barely visible.

"There's always been a small chance of it reaching the ground. It happened over the Shetland Islands for a time this afternoon when we had some very small deposits of dust," said Met Office forecaster John Hammond.

"Over the next few days or so, with winds as they are, there is a chance we will see some small deposits but these will be quite difficult to see.

"It might be easiest to see anything that comes out of the sky on cars because the amounts will be very small."

Fallout from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in southeast Iceland threw up a huge cloud of ash across northern Europe, prompting authorities to close the airspace in Britain and at least seven other countries.

He added WHO were still trying to gather more information on the exact health risks associated with the ash cloud.

WHO said there was no set concentration threshold that the ash cloud must have to make it a health risk.

"Any particular matter that is deposited (and) breathed into the lungs is dangerous to people," said the spokesman. "It depends on how the particles are suspended in the cloud and their density. We don't know that yet."

But health officials in the UK appeared to play down the concerns, saying a 'small fraction of Icelandic volcanic plume' would fall to ground level in Britain tonight and tomorrow morning.

European weather experts said the ash cloud was spreading southwards over Europe and eastwards into Russia at the speed of a slow moving car.

Elizabeth Warren May Be Lined Up As Next Supreme Court Judge

Elizabeth Warren is in the news lately as John Paul Stevens announces on Friday that he will be retiring from the Supreme Court this summer, leaving much speculation about who Obama might choose to replace him.
"I think the White House would like to do everything to avoid a fight. And I think they're very mistaken if they think they can avoid a fight," Arianna said On ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, as part of a roundtable with George Will, Sam Donaldson, and Cokie Roberts. "I think the president should nominate whoever he thinks is the best and forget this obsession with avoiding a fight because he won't be able to."


In addition to the names being bandied about as possible nominees, Arianna had another suggestion: Elizabeth Warren.

"I think Elizabeth Warren -- especially if we can clone her so she can also run the Consumer Protection Agency -- would be a great nominee. A Harvard Law professor, an expert on bankruptcy law, on many of the ways in which economic policies are impacting the middle class, exactly what the country needs right now, a compelling communicator. A great thing about John Paul Stevens was how persuasive he was, how he could move at least judge Kennedy and give us some of those 5-4 decisions which were so critical."

Which actor is most overdue to win an Oscar?

Now that Kate Winslet is no longer poor Kate Winslet, five-time loser of the Academy Award, it's time to decide who deserves our pity next.

Nathaniel Rogers got this new pity party started over at Film Experience, combining male and female performers and deciding that we should all be boo-hoo-hoo-ing over Michelle Pfeiffer. Not a bad choice. She's lost three times and may be nominated next year for "Chéri," director Stephen Frears' adaptation of the romance novel penned by Colette. But there are so many snubbed stars in the Hollywood firmament, frankly, we'd like to break up this Oscars discussion into two parts based upon gender.

Let's start with the guys and have you pick the star you think we should all be rooting for.

Of course, Peter O'Toole is most overdue in the literal sense, being the Oscars' biggest loser (eight defeats). But at this point, let's be honest, his hopes look dim. Besides, he's already got an honorary Oscar.

Poor Albert Finney doesn't have one of those and he's lost five times in the competitive races, but, truth be told, he also looks like a lost cause. He should have been nominated for "Big Fish" in 2003 but was snubbed. That tells us something, probably that the Oscar  voters don't appreciate how often he snubs them back, usually not bothering to attend the ceremony when he gets into the race. That started with his first big nom as best actor in 1963. The night "Tom Jones" won best picture at the Oscars, its star preferred to be in Hawaii partying with some foxy gals, so press reports tattled.

There are many others too, but our poll can only accommodate 10 names, so I had to be selective. Obvious choices are highly regarded, red-hot actors such as Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Johnny Depp could be back in the running soon with Michael Mann's "Public Enemies," Brad Pitt with Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" and Leo DiCaprio with Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island."

Stars like Donald Sutherland aren't here because they've never been nominated. Some chaps like Bill Murray and Edward Norton aren't listed because, well, they have PR problems within the industry and winning would be difficult for them, though not impossible. Others, including Liam Neeson and Dennis Hopper, aren't here because of my whim, but they were carefully considered. Really! Charlie Sheen denies salary dispute with TV show bosses

 Actor Charlie Sheen has rubbished reports that he is involved in a salary dispute with the bosses of his TV show 'Two and A Half Men'.

Sheen, whose contract with the show expires at the end of the latest season, was recently rumoured to have quit the show after failing to agree on a pay deal with chiefs at America's CBS network.

However, he insists that he will leave the hit sitcom gracefully if his contract is not renewed, reports contactmusic.com.

The star wrapped the final show of season seven on April 9.

'All of the numbers reported in the press are false. Claims from 'inside sources' regarding offers from the studio as well as my salary, on their best day, are without merit,' Sheen said in a statement.

'If tonight's show is the end for me as Charlie Harper, so be it. Another journey has begun. I take from the experience 161 shows filled with a kaleidoscope of amazing experiences, memories, friendships and gratitude,' he added.
